The Spirit of the Original

Like its spiritual predecessor the R 80 G/S from 1980 the R 12 G/S stands for unbridled motorcycle adventures. There are three finish options to choose from. The shapes and colors emphasize the character of this free spirit. 

• Light White — The color of the original: white paint on the tank graphics in light blue and dark blue as well as the characteristic red bench seat.
• Option 719 Aragonite — Adventure calls: Exclusive Option 719 Style in Sandrover Matte with accents in Racing Red and Mineral Grey Metallic Matte.
• Night Black Matte — A purist style statement: the R 12 G/S is presented entirely in black with a tone-on-tone effect.

The R 12 G/S pays tribute to the beginnings of the G/S legend – nostalgia and modernity in perfect symbiosis. The exposed aesthetically staged boxer engine the high chassis and the color scheme of the original are immediately striking. Its retro look will have you yearning for the deserts and off-road trails. Its simple style references the insignia of the R 80 G/S and makes the bike both a timeless classic and a unique statement.

• LED headlight — With the X-shaped light icons the LED headlight embodies the pure off-road spirit and helps ensure that obstacles are visible even in the dark.
• Enduro suspension — Designed for off-roading: with 8.2” of spring travel at the fork and 7.8” of spring travel at the rear suspension strut. Excels on the streets: for precise and direct rideability with the typical BMW driving dynamics.
• A must for off-roading: Enduro Package Pro — The optional Enduro Package Pro will get you ready for off-roading with eight additional equipment options. With an 18” rear wheel enduro footrests and handlebar risers you can confidently stand on your pegs.
• Stay smart on the go: ConnectedRide Control — With the ConnectedRide Control optional equipment the R 12 G/S features a smartphone holder and a USB-C port so that you maintain your charge on the road.
• Confidence is along for the ride: ABS Pro — For enhanced riding confidence when cornering and leaning: the partial integral brake system with ABS Pro.
• Authentic: retro off-road boxer — An unmistakeable centerpiece: the appropriately staged air/oil-cooled boxer engine.
• Comfort package with Shift Assistant Pro — The Shift Assistant Pro in the optional comfort package allows for smooth and rapid gear changes in both directions without having to use the clutch.
• And action: Rallye seat — One of the three seat versions available is the optional Rallye seat. It lets the rider sit 0.8” higher. Consistent geometry and the straight contour are designed to meet your off-roading needs.

COMFORT AND CONFIDENCE

As standard: ready for off-roading

The fully adjustable suspension with spring travel of 8.2"/7.8" is designd for off-road use. With a ground clearance of 9.4" even larger obstacles pose no problem. The flat bench seat allows for freedom of movement when standing while the tank geometry offers the perfect place to reat your knees when riding off-road.

Expand your comfort zone

The equipment in the optional comfort package offers you outstanding support. With Shift Assistant Pro you can enjoy a more dynamic yet comfortable ride with no need to use the clutch for shifting gears. The Hill Start Control provides support for hill starts and the electronic cruise control offers assistance on the road. The grip heating allows you to enjoy trips in colder regions in comfort.

Off-road upgrade: Enduro Package Pro

The R 12 G/S is the only BMW Motorrad bike to feature an 18" rear wheel. Off-road tires enduro footrests a large engine guard 0.8" handlebar risers hand protection and a longer side stand round out the package. The additional ENDURO PRO Riding Mode offers optimal off-road performance.

Airboxer forever

An engine with loyal fans: the boxer. With the R 12 G/S we have incorporated it into a contemporary framework concept. The basic structure consisting of the engine single-piece tubular spaceframe with a bolted rear frame flush suspension strut and redesigned engine peripheral equipment provides the basis for an enjoyable ride. With the three riding modes RAIN ROAD and ENDURO you can adapt your riding experience to suit your preferences. The typical boxer sound and 109 hp will transport you straight to adventure with no diversions.
